Charlie Benante is an American drummer best known as the drummer of Anthrax, a thrash metal band from New York City. He has been the band’s drummer since 1983 and is also the group’s main songwriter. He joined the reunited Pantera in 2022, filling-in for original drummer Vinnie Paul for their upcoming 2023 tour.
Benante was born in The Bronx, New York and is of Italian-American descent. He started playing drums at the age of eight, and joined his first band at the age of fifteen. He is considered to be one of the most influential drummers in thrash metal music.
