Jari Mäenpää, a Finnish musician, is known for his heavy metal compositions and his ability to play multiple instruments. He established the band Wintersun, where he takes charge of recording all the instruments except for the drums. Prior to this, he was a part of a folk metal group called Ensiferum, which he joined in 1996 after departing from his previous band called Immemorial.
He initially planned to work on Wintersun as a side project while still being a member of Ensiferum. However, in January 2004, he had to leave Ensiferum due to schedule conflicts between touring and recording time for Wintersun in the studio.
